The Moropreneur Inc. kicked off its Women Empowerment through Craft (WE Craft) Project with a Joint Orientation and Planning Workshop for Maguindanao and Basilan on September 13-14, 2018 at Newzon Business Inn, Zamboanga City.
The workshop was participated by representatives of Local Government Units in the Provinces, Municipalities, and Barangays covered by the project. Representatives of both Regional and Provincial Line Agencies were also present during the activity.
Marlon Viejo from UN Women presented the Empowered Women, Peaceful Communities Program to the participants and WE Craft Program Manager Norhaini Manongkarang discussed the overview of the WE Craft Project.
At the end of the workshop, the participants have acquired a deeper understanding of the project and developed strategies and mechanisms for collaboration in its implementation. The participants from the two provinces also came up with Joint Work Plans for the activities of the Project.
Furthermore, a partial list of the target Barangays in Maguindanao and Sitios in Basilan have also been determined by the participants. The participants considered areas which received few interventions from government programs in choosing the community partners.
The PLGUs of Basilan and Maguindanao also presented the Gender and Development programs implemented by the local government which could complement the WE Craft Project. Representatives of line agencies also presented the GAD programs and activities in their respective offices.
Gemma Pricillo, Assistant GAD Focal Person of the Municipality of Sultan Kudarat said that the activity helped them realize the importance of women’s participation and it has also deepened their understanding in terms of empowering women.
Basilan Provincial Budget Officer and GAD Focal Person, Intan Gordana A. Abubakar expressed her gratitude to TMI and UN Women for choosing communities in Basilan as project sites. She also reiterated the commitment of the Basilan PLGU in supporting all programs and projects for the development of the province.
“This is an opportune time for all women, especially in Basilan”, Marilou Cruz, CDS from CDA-ARMM Basilan Provincial Office said. She also lauded the collaborative efforts of her fellow participants in Basilan and Maguindanao.
At the end of the activity, both provinces also presented their commitments in support to the implementation of the project.
